Why 2FA matters
Two-factor authentication adds a second step beyond your password, so a leaked or guessed password alone is not enough to break into your account. Because credentials are constantly exposed in data breaches, 2FA is one of the single highest-impact things you can do for your online safety — including on your VPN account itself.
App codes vs SMS
An authenticator app generates a fresh six-digit code every 30 seconds and works offline. SMS codes are better than nothing but can be intercepted through SIM-swap attacks, so prefer an app where possible. For your most sensitive accounts, a hardware security key offers the strongest protection of all.
Step-by-step
Open your account's security settings, choose "two-factor" or "authenticator app," scan the QR code with your authenticator, and enter the generated code to confirm. Critically, save your backup recovery codes somewhere offline — they are your way back in if you lose your phone. Enable 2FA on your email first, since it can reset everything else.
